A skilled worker visa allows you to come to the UK to do an eligible job with an approved employer
If you or your close family are from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein, and you started living in the UK before 1st January 2021, you can apply for the free EU Settlement Scheme. This means that you would not need to get a visa to work in the UK. Irish citizens do not need to apply for the EU Settlement Scheme or a visa.

Skilled Worker Visa Requirements
To qualify for a skilled worker visa you must:
Work for a UK employer that’s been approved by the Home Office
Have a ‘certificate of sponsorship’ from your employer with information about the role you’ve been offered in the UK
Do a job that on the list of eligible occupations
Be paid a minimum salary- how much depends on the type of work you do
Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English

With a skilled worker visa, you can:
- Work
- Study
- Bring your partner and children with you
- Take on additional work
- Do voluntary work
- Travel abroad and return to the UK
- Apply for settlement in the UK after 5 years if you meet the eligibility requirements
Things you cannot do:
- Gain access to public fund such as benefits
- Changes jobs or employer unless you apply to update your visa
